14 Days of Love
What is Love?
"Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it...It really is worth fighting for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more." Erica Jong
The meaning of love is illusive. It’s meaning depends on who you are, what your situation is, or what your passion is. There is not one answer that works in every situation, nor is there a single answer that applies universally.
For some it is a good sporting event, for others it may be music. From associating with others to serving ones’ community we all find passion in something that fills the void inside.
For others it is the love for one’s family, and of course the one you have a passion for - your partner. In the end, however, it gets down to what makes you happiest and where you find your passion. Without passion there is really nothing to kindle the fire within.
If you took a run at Dino’s Love Puzzle yesterday you probably found numerous words that describe, in some form, love and passion. If you missed the puzzle yesterday you can still can take a run at it here.
For me love is found in family and my sweetheart. I constantly find joy in these relationships and am continually amazed at how they’ve developed over the years. Perhaps I have finally reached a point in my life where I can relate to those that are close to me.
My children are grown and have started families of their own. They also all live outside Alaska although their presence is still felt. Whether it’s a weekend phone calls or a holiday visit we just seem to pick up from when we were last together.
The conversations with my children also seem better. I guess mentally we have all caught up with each other. Regardless, we are family and much closer now than in the past.
I also feel fortunate that I have found someone to share my life with daily. I am in love with a wonderful woman who continues to amaze me daily. I know it’s love because I feel something deep inside of me that I have never felt before. The feeling starts every morning when we wake up and continues until we fall asleep. It is there every minute in between.
It’s a great time to be in love and to develop personally. It is easier to fan the ambers of love when daily demands do not dictate how you spend your time. Yes, I miss my children, but I now have time to share with others that are equally important in my life.
I wish everyone could share my experience, but I know that it’s not always possible, which is unfortunate. Life is too short for us to not to find passion, even harder on this special day.
And who is to judge what is right for someone else? Traditional relationships, alternative lifestyles - whatever. Love comes in many forms and we should be happy when it is found. Nothing more, nor nothing less.
As Erica Jong noted, it is worth the risk and you need to risk everything to make it work. I am determined, I will risk everything because I think the rewards are worth it.
This 14th day of love is dedicated to those who feel passion, and who risk living that passion.
